Gaia Commission: Rugami

Finally, finally finished this. It really shouldn’t have taken me months, since it’s just lineart. But (although i’m sure the commissioner would feel otherwise, and i don’t blame her at all if she wants to grill my slow butt) in hindsight i’m glad i took my time, simply because there’s no doubt that it would not have turned out anywhere near as well if it had been finished the week she requested it. Not that it’s perfect now, but for some reason my inking skill has suddenly and at long last levelled up. Not spectacullarly to Ev levels, but the difference is noticable to me.

And this is in no small part due to oogling the fan-flipping-tastic art of one Chelsea, aka Cacodaemonia. (i’ve been lurking at some of the HINABN fan places and looking at all the pretty fanstuff 8D; ) After the heartspewing stopped, i actually tried to figure out what exactly it was about the way she inked that just worked, and packed it away in my brain for future reference. There’s something so natural about her inks; sometimes inked pieces lack the movement and life of sketches–that’s always been a problem with my own inked stuff, and why i hate it–but hers don’t. It’s clean and lovely and still has that life to it. i don’t want to draw exactly the way that she (or anyone else) does, as beautiful as her style is; but if i can get as good as she currently is in my own way, that would give me a big happee.

…anyway, here’s some art.

Gaia commission – ariadelle2007

Finished it at last earlier in the week. But have been lazy and not posted >>; It was just supposed to be a lineart, but i added in some slight shading because it looked too bare to me. She liked it, and it’s finally done, so yay for that n_n; This was probably the first ‘proper’ picture done fully in SAI.

Gaia Commission

As advertised in the header. This took way too long to do and it’s far from perfect; still, am fairly pleased with it since it’s:

a) not just a floating head
b) of more than one person (fine, only two, but 2>1 regardless :P )
c) figures are interacting rather than just standing there
d) coloured; sort of properly, at that
e) an unusual angle (i.e. not eyelevel and front-on or profile-view)

It feels like i pushed myself a little with this picture, and that’s never a bad thing, no matter the end-result :3

Image behind cut due to slight NSFWness. Done in a mix of OpenCanvas, Paint Tool SAI, and Photoshop.
