Carson Beckett Speedpaint

I started another speedpaint, taking a little over 1 hour because I had so many corrections to work on. @_@

I was too lazy to find a close up photo of Beckett, so instead I used this autographed photo I found from Space Debris.

As mentioned above, I’ve made a lot of mistakes in this one which weren’t apparent until I started defining the features. This time though, I did block out the colours in solid and then blended and defined the fanart at 200% zoom. It all looked alright but not in actual size view. Hence more corrections were made.

But a speedpaint’s a speedpaint and I shouldn’t go overtime. Hopefully this exercise will help me paint better faster.

Final product:

He plays a tv actor in real life.

What’s funny halfway through this speedpainting, was that I ran out to the lounge because I heard ‘splosions, and turned out Con Air was on. On its way to Carson city. I LOL’D AND RAN BACK TO FINISH THIS.

Speedpainting

The difficult part of speed painting is that you need to get the gist of the whole image quickly and sketchily. I had to remind myself many times that I do not need to perfect the shades- just to make sure that everything looks alright.

And because I wanted to do a fanart, I picked a frame with a character of a tv series I just got into.

A fantastic lop-sided grin; nice full on face. The image is actually not that big so. It’s a small speedpaint!

I should’ve picked Photoshop to work on my PS skills but I decided to go with Opencanvas. Program doesn’t matter as I just want to get down and dirty with the fanart (because person does not exist, we settle for 2D). I started with a grey silhoutte, and went onto working on the eyes and the nose. The problem was that I started to define too early.

You can see where I went wrong. Next time I will start blocking out the shadows instead. Anyhow, I managed to eventually get to the end product after meandering through defining, correcting, shading and defining again.

I feel accomplished with the final result; I think I learnt enough to make the next speedpainting better!
